What playing level should I be at?
Typically, we recommend that our players be able to read and play at an intermediate level or greater to match our repertoire. We also suggest that you have some experience in playing with an ensemble.
How much practicing is involved?
This is an individual decision based on your own abilities as a player and the particular selection. Members should practice their parts to ensure an enjoyable playing experience.
I play the guitar - can I join the KSO?
For the purposes of the KSO, our core musicians play one of the violin, viola, cello, or bass. Occasionally, we do have non-string soloists, such as brass, woodwind, and percussion, who join us for only certain pieces of our concerts when needed.
I am a violinist with a CV - can I be a guest soloist with your group?
While we do have guest string players from time to time, they do so on a pro bono basis. You can send us your details, and we will contact you if such an opening arises.

Is there a fee to become a playing member of the orchestra?
Yes. All members are asked to pay a yearly membership fee, which helps cover the costs of our rehearsal and concert venue, our music director, sheet music rentals, and other expenses. The fee varies for each session.
How can I help?
The orchestra is always looking for volunteer help. If you can help at concerts (ex: ushering), or with marketing and administrative tasks, we’d love to hear from you. Just email us at info@kawarthastring.ca. High school volunteers are eligible for volunteer hours.
